 Have you ever wondered how popular .22 defensive rounds perform out of a rifle?  These gelatin tests yield some interesting results.  Despite the seemingly unimpressive gelatin testing performance, ballistic expert and 40+ year police officer Chuck Haggard often comments that he has never seen a person shot in the torso with a .22 rifle who has lived.  In my police career, I never responded to any calls where a criminal or armed citizen shot anyone with a .22 rifle.  I have however, seen the results of a couple of .22 rifle suicides.  The cartridge performed very well out of a rifle in that capacity.
