How And Why The M16 Failed In Vietnam (And Is It Reliable Today?)
For more than 10 years, my police department fielded Vietnam-era surplus M16A1 rifles on patrol. During that time I would conservatively estimate that I supervised over 500K rounds fired from the rifles. They were very reliable. I’m just incredibly grateful that I never had to deploy on the street with 30 spare magazines.

The New Airport Scam Every Traveler Needs to Know
In my travel safety book, I advised folks to remove and trash their luggage bag tags as soon as they pick up their bags at their destination. Smart scam artists will use the info available on the tags (name and country of origin) as a way to approach you and work their hustle. Apparently the hustlers are now trying a new scam.
Take your bag tags off, put them in an outside suitcase pocket and shred them once you get clear of the airport.

Get a Grip
“Why force one gun on all officers in the agency (or worse, the same trigger reach with a different length frame – since figment to the hand comprises trigger reach too)? Would you make the 5’ 4” 110 lb female officer wear a size 40 duty belt? No, because it wouldn’t fit her. How about issuing the 6’ 5” 300 lb SWAT guy an XS ballistic vest? No? That won’t work either? Just because it is a gun, the size issue doesn’t change. We need to take a hard look at arcane ideas of one size fitting all, and the “good enough” mentality for whichever mission we have at a given time; and get a grip.”
